questions about decks & patios

FAQs

Do I need a permit? +

Most ${CITY}-area municipalities require a permit for decks over 30" off the ground or attached to the house. We handle the application and coordinate inspections — usually adds 1-2 weeks to the project timeline.

Pressure-treated vs. cedar vs. composite — which? +

Pressure-treated: cheapest, needs staining every 2-3 years, lasts 15-20 years. Cedar: prettier, less maintenance, lasts 15-25 years, costs 50% more. Composite: no maintenance, 25+ year warranty, costs 2-3x pressure-treated. We will recommend based on your budget and goals.

Can you repair just a few boards instead of rebuilding? +

Yes — if the frame is sound. We check joists and posts first. If those are rotted, board replacement just delays a full rebuild.

When is the best time to build a deck in Toledo? +

April through October for new builds. Refinishing is best in dry weather, May-September. We can schedule for spring once you submit so the deck is ready for summer use.

Do you stain or paint after build? +

New pressure-treated wood needs to dry 30-60 days before staining. We will book a return visit for the stain or sealer once the wood is ready.
